For the first time ever, the psychological  horror film, The Shining, will bring unspeakable terror to “Halloween Horror Nights” in terrifying new mazes opening at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort, beginning this September.

The twisted minds behind the nation’s best, most intense Halloween events will bring every gruesome moment and paranormal haunting that fans have seen in the film to life in original, disturbingly authentic mazes.

“The Shining” maze at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights will provide guests with a unique opportunity to relive some of the film’s most iconic, and sinister, moments.  While venturing through the eerie Overlook Hotel, guests will be thrust into the hotel’s tragic history of murder and madness, bearing witness to caretaker Jack Torrance’s spiraling descent into insanity. Nightmarish visions will come to life in this macabre maze, overwhelming guests with the “shine” of the murderous, ghostly entities that lurk around every turn – all while trying to escape the wrath of Jack Torrance as he violently succumbs to the hotel’s paranormal forces.

The Shining has been regarded as “a masterpiece of modern horror” by critics and fans alike. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film’s enormous influence on pop culture has been captured throughout a multitude of films, television shows, music and more since its disturbing debut in 1980.

Universal Studios’ “Halloween Horror Nights” is the ultimate Halloween event. For more than 20 years, guests from around the world have visited Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood and Orlando to become victims inside their own horror film. The streets of each coast’s event are transformed into highly-themed scare zones where menacing “scare-actors” lunge from every darkened corner. Multiple movie-quality haunted houses are erected throughout the event, based on everything from iconic slasher films to hit horror television series to haunting original stories.

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” Returns To Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights 26

Don’t Enter…Dead Inside. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

This fall, Universal Orlando Resort is bringing back AMC’s hit series, “The Walking Dead,” to Halloween Horror Nights, propelling guests into the most horrifying highlights of all six seasons – all in one unbelievably terrifying haunted house.

Guests will walk – or run – in the footsteps of the show’s cast of survivors, fending off packs of flesh-hungry walkers at every turn. They’ll step inside instantly-recognizable locations, such as the hospital from Season 1 where Rick awakens to a world overrun with the dead, the unnerving home of the Governor in Season 3 and the seemingly-safe refuge, Terminus, from Season 4.

The experience will culminate with iconic scenes from Season 6, where guests will trudge through a decomposed sewer and try to evade the brutal pack of villains, The Wolves, after they’ve invaded Alexandria. Along the way, they’ll rush to avoid the bite of the show’s most memorable walkers – including some that have never been seen before at “Halloween Horror Nights.” Click here for a sneak peek of the terror in store for Universal Orlando guests.

A popular “Halloween Horror Nights” staple at Universal Studios Hollywood, “The Walking Dead” has turned into an immersive 365-day experience inviting guests to step into a no-holds-barred zombie apocalypse. Brought to life with immersive detail, the new theme park attraction and “Halloween Horror Nights’’ offering is a collaboration with AMC and series Executive Producer and Director Greg Nicotero, whose special effects company, KNB Efx, raises the dead on the blockbuster TV series as well as for Universal Studios’ new permanent daytime  attraction.

Coupled with authentic walker make-up effects, sophisticated animatronic walkers, substantially more detailed set design and costuming, and highly recognizable props replicated from the series, Universal Studios Hollywood’s “The Walking Dead” attraction will deliver an uncompromised realistic environment that brings guests even further into the most watched show in cable television history.

“The Walking Dead” is one of the most successful cable television shows in history. Based on the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman, its passionate fan base continues to grow and follow the story of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world filled with ferocious walkers. The show returns for a seventh season in October, enabling fans to relive their favorite moments at “Halloween Horror Nights” before watching all-new episodes.

Universal Studios’ “Halloween Horror Nights” is the ultimate Halloween event. For more than 20 years, guests from around the world have visited “Halloween Horror Nights” in Orlando and Hollywood to become victims inside their own horror film. The streets of each coast’s event are transformed into highly-themed scare zones where menacing “scare-actors” lunge from every darkened corner. Multiple movie-quality haunted houses are erected throughout the event, based on anything from iconic slasher films to hit horror television series to haunting original stories.

AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON AND OTHER FAN-FAVORITES RETURN FOR THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 25

My favorite time of year is almost here… Halloween Horror Nights! I’m getting super excited with it being our 25th event. I know our Entertainment team has some great things in store for us all. Like, I literally know. And it is amazing.

So far, we’ve revealed four of the terrifying houses that will be taking up residence this year. When it came to the question of who would like to help reveal the remaining five houses, scare zones and shows, I quickly volunteered. I almost fell out of my chair from excitement when I learned one of my favorite houses from 2013 was coming back…

An American Werewolf in London
One of the fan-favorites from years past is making a triumphant return—the retelling of the classic 1981 John Landis horror film, An American Werewolf in London.

You’ll find yourself back on the English moors as you fend off attacks and witness the bone-crunching transformations. The best part? The wolf pack has expanded, and they’re going to be even more ferocious with a whole new look.

Following that exciting reveal, I moved on to learn about the original content coming this year. And being an uber-fan myself, I can definitely say our Entertainment team has gone above and beyond for the 25th event. Here’s the line-up for the original content houses and scare zones:

Original Content Houses

  • Jack Presents: 25 Years of Monsters and Mayhem
HHN 25 Years of Monsters and Mayhem
Jack is back and he invites you to join him for the ultimate reunion in horror. Universal classic monsters will attack from the shadows, meat-grinding maniacs will rip every scream from your throat, and ghosts of Horror Nights past will stalk you around every corner. You’ll find yourself dying to get in and relive your most haunting memories of the past 25 years of Halloween Horror Nights.
  • RUN: Blood, Sweat and Fears
    Run Blood, Sweat and Fears
Congratulations! You’ve been selected to be one of the lucky contestants on RUN, the most popular and brutal television show in the world. In this house, you’ll have to try and avoid the skilled assassins known as Reapers as you work through “death obstacles” designed to mangle and shred—all for the amusement of the audience watching from home. And good news: the now run-down Hellgate Prison has been selected as the battleground. Good luck!
  • Asylum in Wonderland 3D
    Asylum in Wonderland 3D
A new volume of Scary Tales has been released by Ultra Violent Comics: “Asylum in Wonderland”. This time around, you’ll follow the white rabbit through the looking glass and into a murderous 3-D Wonderland. All of the beloved characters will come to life in this chaotic world with an insane, nightmarish twist. You’ll be left asking one question: Is it all really in Alice’s mind? Or are the images you see real enough to kill you?
  • Body Collectors: Recollections
    Body Collectors Recollections
They have returned. The Body Collectors are on the hunt for the human parts they so desperately need. Emerging from the darkness on a cold, winter night, they descended upon the unknowing inhabitants of Shadybrook Asylum. Get ready to face their sharpened blades as the screams of their recent victims echo throughout the halls.
  • The Walking Dead: The Living and the Dead

hero04_TWD_wLogo

From the burnt ashes of Terminus, through the flooded community food pantry basement, and into the darkened churchyard, hordes of walkers surround you as you relive gut-wrenching moments of the most recent season.

  • Freddy vs. Jason™

hero02_FvJ_wLogo

From the cursed Camp Crystal Lake to the nightmarish 1428 Elm Street, awake or asleep, you’ll find yourself caught in the middle of this epic battle — where the winner’s reward is YOU.

Insidious
  • Insidious

hero03_Insidious_wLogo

Enter “The Further” and travel through all three parts of the Insidious saga. Denizens of the afterlife try to find their way back into the world using the living to guide them. The house isn’t haunted–we are.

  • THE PURGE

hero05_Purge_wLogo

This year’s Purge is more brutal than ever. From the moment you step inside the house, dozens of vicious vigilantes will descend upon you as they exercise their right to purge.

Scare Zones

  • Psychoscareapy: Unleashed — The criminally insane inmates of Shadybrooke Asylum have escaped and unleashed their horror onto a Halloween block party in the streets of New York. Come join the party goers as the inmates kill for the best Halloween costumes for their very own special costume contest where you will be the judge. Oh, and this will be one of the bloodiest scare zones ever!
  • ICONS: HHN — And now for the scare zone I’m looking forward to the most! It’s time to take a look back in history and come face-to-face with the icons from our past. Iconic characters from the event’s 25 year history such as The Caretaker, The Storyteller, The Director and more will be found roaming the streets of Hollywood. I’ve even heard The Rat Lady will be making her grand return!
  • Scary Tales: ScreamPunk — This year, we’re bringing to life our most horrifying Scary Tales characters with a new twist. This steampunk-inspired version of Scary Tales is sure to leave you screaming.
  • Evil’s Roots — It’s time to be immersed in Halloween’s most evil traditions in the scare zone located in Central Park. Here you’ll find the event’s traditional jack-o-lanterns in the air as you encounter evil fairies, humanoid bats, scarecrows and more. Think “Grown Evil” from 2011 but on a whole ‘nother level!
  • All Nite Die-In: Double Feature — Last but certainly not least is a double feature of horror at The Carey DrIvE IN movie theatre. Wander down the streets of San Francisco and you’ll come across this theatre that has been named “DIE IN”, due to the gruesome murders that occurred. Enter if you dare…

And, of course, we’ll have two live shows this year…

  • The Carnage Returns — Jack the Clown is taking Halloween Horror Nights back in a blaze of murderous mayhem with his army of feared followers and his companion in carnage, Chance. Remember, Jack always has the last laugh.
  • Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure — Of course, they’re back in an all-new Halloween adventure. I could never describe the hilarious insanity of that show. It has to be seen to be believed. Party on, dudes!

So, one question for everyone: Who’s ready for September 18 to get here? I wish I could hit a fast forward button or something… Till then, that’s the full line-up for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights houses, scare zones and shows. I’ll see you out there!

There is a new Back To The Future ride in the early stages of development, and it may be headed straight for Universal Orlando! I have been in contact with Eddie Pollard who is the creative mind behind the brand new ride experience.

The ride would be a Stengel Engineering fully enclosed roller coaster. You will board an authentic Kevin Pike (who is also involved with the project) designed DeLorean themed train. Once on board you would put on a VR headset themed to Doc Brown’s silver sunglasses. During the ride you will experience an 88mph launch as you are taken through the most iconic scenes from all 3 movies, as you chase down present day Biff who has stolen Doc’s time machine and is traveling back in time to destroy the original time machine. It’s truly a fully immersive story telling ride experience.
